How do you feel your school will benefit from holding a mini BWA competition?

"We have an extremely culturally rich school. Therefore it would be great to channel this into their creative writing. To promote writing as an enjoyable, exciting and rewarding activity would raise it up to the level of importance that it deserves."

Young Writers is delighted to be working in partnership with the Brit Writers’ Awards. We’ve been publishing poetry and creative writing by school children for almost 20 years and we wholly believe in the nurturing of creative talent. Working closely with schools, parents and pupils we provide the opportunity, the educational support and the inspirational ideas to help motivate children and encourage their creativity whatever their academic ability or background. Developing creative writing potential in all children and providing positive association with writing, we believe, is key to ensuring a strong relationship of enjoyment with reading and creative writing for life.

We support the work of the Brit Writers’ Awards. Their enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to providing opportunities for writers and poets to make their mark in a notoriously difficult market is a welcome change and one we’re proud to be part of.

“The Brit Writers’ Awards is not only another good way to develop individual creative writing for all ages, but a wonderful opportunity to increase understanding and respect within today’s Britain.”

Gordon Brown, Prime Minister

"As the single voice for music writers in the UK, BASCA is pleased to support these awards which encourages the development of craft of songwriting amongst young people".

Patrick Rackow, CEO, BASCA

Independent publisher, Infinite Ideas, is thrilled to be one of BWA's partners in this ambitious and exciting project. The book publishing industry has marginalised authors to the point where they are little more than suppliers and new authors face a particularly difficult uphill struggle to be heard. Infinite Ideas is delighted to be part of a movement that encourages writers of all ages and backgrounds, promotes creativity and self-expression and gives new writers a voice. As the publishers of one of the winning books in 2010 we are proud to be playing our part in what promises to be a renaissance of creative writing in the UK.

Richard Burton
Co-director, Infinite Ideas

Human Relief Foundation (HRF) whole-heartedly and fully supports the Brit Writers' Awards Unpublished 2010. HRF actively encourages and promotes education from basic literacy rights through to postgraduate studies. Illiteracy is one of the key factors in world poverty; therefore, with the sharing and exchanging of knowledge through writing; eradication of world poverty can become a reality. It is therefore creative initiatives like these that entice and empower both the youth and the old to "pick up a pen and put it to paper." These innovative projects whether in the UK or internationally neatly fit into HRF's aims and objectives. I wish all the entrants the best of luck and I look forward to seeing the winners on the night of the awards!

"Get writing and good luck! The nitenite brand is a unique and innovative product in the hotel industry and we are keen to support other organisations that promote innovation and creativity, especially in the fab city of Brum!

These awards provide a great opportunity for people from all walks of life - offering an even playing field to showcase their work and promote their unique talents. Today's literary world is dominated by big-name publishers, often making it hard for 'unknowns' to get their work onto the public platform. However, it is awards such as these that give ordinary people a chance and encourage entries from all sorts of budding writers, young and old, embracing different styles and individuality. nitenite is proud to be a part of this exciting venture and is thrilled that this high profile event will take place in Birmingham, attracting widespread attention and offering a golden opportunity to the lucky finalists.

We'd like to wish all entrants the best of luck and would urge all would-be writers to have a go at one of the many categories - be a part of something great!"

Colin Hatt
CEO, nitenite cityhotels

CLB "In terms of ethnicity, race, culture and faith Britain is today more diverse than at any time in our history. Diversity is a real strength in this country and as a Government, we have a role to ensure this strength is successfully managed.

"In order to achieve this we need to build strong and positive relationships between people of different backgrounds, a sense of belonging and a shared vision for the future. In essence our nation's strength is both in its diversity but also in the commonality we share. We need to create an environment where every person can realise their full potential, make a contribution and feel they belong.

"We are supporting those who are working to build bridges between communities and break down negative misconceptions and stereotypes. In particular, we look to support those who recognise and celebrate the contributions of all communities to wider society. That is why we are pleased to be supporting the Brit Writers' Awards, which recognise the literary achievements of men and women not only from Muslim communities, but from wider society. The Brit Writers' Awards has a particularly important role to play in fostering community cohesion, nurturing talent and developing role models across communities - best of luck to all the nominees."

Shahid Malik MP
Minister for Communities

When You Wish Upon A Star charity "When You Wish Upon a Star is delighted to be working with the Brit Writers' Awards Unpublished 2010. Every week we receive letters into our office from the most incredibly brave and courageous children all of whom are suffering from life threatening illnesses. The children ask us to make their one special wish come true, however without the help of our supporters it would simply not be possible to grant every single Wish we receive. We would like to thank the Brit Writers' Awards for their support and we look forward to working alongside you on such an exciting and inspiring event."

East Midlands Regional Fundraiser, When You Wish Upon A Star

“What an exciting initiative! The Reading Agency is delighted to be partnering the Brit Writers’ Awards and wish them every possible success. Writing and reading go hand in hand, and since our mission is to inspire more people to read more, we wholeheartedly support the Brit Writers’ Awards ambitions and will be working together to help everyone, in every community, feel they can become a reader and a writer, with all the riches and life chances that brings.”

"Creativity and partnerships lie at the heart of our business and we're delighted to be involved with the Brit Writers Awards, an initiative which sets out to inspire and encourage creativity in young people. At a time when mass entertainment increasingly revolves around virtual, technology-based activities, songwriting stands out as a pure, timeless art, where a special combination of music and lyrics has the potential to touch thousands, sometimes millions of people. Through our work as an educational music publisher, we are constantly impressed by the talent which exists amongst school-aged musicians, and particularly look forward to seeing what emerges from this sector. It is our hope that, through publishing the winners, we will help to nurture and encourage the best talent emerging from the next generation of songwriters. We offer our whole-hearted support to the Brit Writers Awards."

Richard King
Chief Executive, Faber Music Ltd

"Training Connect is delighted to be associated with the Brit Writers' Awards. As providers of English with Citizenship training to speakers of other languages, we have a direct interest in the effective and expressive use of language. Encouraging creative writing across all the many cultures represented in Britain today is a cause we are very happy to support.

"Honest compassionate and skilful writing endorses our common humanity, giving us a fresh insight into the thoughts and feelings our own daily lives inspire. Good writing helps us see the world through others' eyes, bridging the gaps and promoting harmonious community cohesion.

"Equipping young people with the power to express themselves through writing and through other modes of expressive communication places them on the path to contributing a positive voice and supporting future leadership within in our society. In light of this let's explore the true potential of our diverse and creative nation. Training Connect commends all current and future participants and supporters on their contribution to BWA."

Managing Director, Training Connect Limited

"As an elite sports club in our field, we recognise that inspiring people to be involved at all levels encourages and helps personal development. What BWA are doing is encouraging people of all ages to become involved and even increase this involvement in writing and literacy.

"We wish all involved with BWA every success for these awards and for the future."

 Festival of Writing

"Here at The Festival of Writing we're very excited to be taking part in this new venture with the Brit Writers' Awards. We'll be hosting the BWA 2010 winner to talk about their work, the prize and their route to market. After having been inspired and motivated at the Brit Writers' Awards in March, you'll get the chance to take your writing to the next level at The Festival of Writing in April. You'll be able to meet agents, publishers, editors, and authors; you'll be given a chance to pitch your ideas, and to learn from the pros. These will be the two main events in the 2010 literary calendar, and we hope you'll join us at both of them."

"It is with great pleasure that I lend my full support to Brit Writers' Awards. Creative writing is a great way for young people to express their thoughts and ideas, give a voice to their opinions and make those opinions known to a wider audience. Reading other writers' work will help to broaden their understanding and acceptance of one another in today's diverse society. These awards are a great initiative and will bring together writers from different cultural backgrounds and inspire people from all over the country to pick up a pen and get creative. Congratulations to those involved – and I wish the best of luck to all the aspiring writers taking part!"

Conservative   "I am delighted to send my best wishes to everyone participating in these Awards. Writing is a great way to display creativity and express thoughts and feelings, and there are few better ways to broaden horizons than to read other people's work. These awards will encourage people to do both. In particular they present a real opportunity for every potential writer to show what he or she can achieve. So I am sure they will unlock hidden talent from people of all ages and from every part of the country, as well as helping to achieve the vital goal of promoting literacy. So I would like to send best wishes – and good luck – to everyone taking part."

Scottish Government "I am delighted to learn about this new initiative, Brit Writers' Awards, which will inspire people of all ages and walks of life to get involved in creative writing. I was thrilled to see the diversity of writing categories - giving everyone a chance to enter the competition. I wish all of the entrants the best of luck and also send my luck to the judges, as I am sure they will have a challenging job ahead of them! ECM Investment "Learning to write is an essential part of an education. Everyone knows that. But the value of learning how to do creative writing well is less well appreciated. Through the Brit Writers' Awards, we are going to start to turn that around. This initiative will encourage young people to write, and so to read. It will encourage the self-expression which is the start of intercultural interaction. And it will give more young people the confidence to pursue a career which involves writing.

"Creative writing also teaches important skills for commerce and business. Apart from basic literacy, it is an essential part of communication – one of the 'soft skills' which too many young British graduates today lack. It is an essential part of persuasion and an essential element in forming your goals and strategies in the first place. We undervalue it at our peril.

"Writing, like other forms of creativity, gives anyone who tries it, no matter how young, the opportunity to take their experiences, memories and feelings and project them out to an audience beyond their immediate circle. Sometimes beyond their country. And sometimes even beyond their era. There can be fewer more exciting prospects we can offer our young people than that. So, it is with pride and pleasure that I warmly add my support to this fantastic initiative – the Brit Writers' Awards 2010."

Azeem Ibrahim
Chairman, European Commerce and Mercantile Bank

Musical Futures "Musical Futures is a national initiative that promotes high quality, innovative approaches to the teaching and learning of music, that engage 11-18 year olds in relevant, sustainable music making activity. Songwriting is a key part of Musical Futures work, as it can be an effective way of enabling young people to express themselves about issues that are important and relevant to them, and through musical styles in which they are familiar. Musical Futures supports the songwriting element of the Brit Writers' Awards, as we hope it will encourage the nurturing of new songwriting talent, and enable young people to get recognition for the songwriting work they are doing both in and outside of the classroom."

Abigail D'Amore
National Coordinator,
Musical Futures

Writing Magazine "I'm absolutely thrilled that Writing Magazine can get behind the Brit Writers Awards. As a judge of the 2008 Muslim Writers' Awards, it's great to see this award opening up to everyone... and reaching out to all those people who don't even know they want to be writers yet! Whether you're an eventual winner or just enjoy the challenge of taking part, these Awards are a great opportunity to get yourself started as a writer, which is exactly what Writing Magazine and Writers' News are all about, so I can't wait to see some entries."

Jonathan Telfer,
Editor, Writing Magazine and Writers' News

"The Star Foundation is here to help support young people in art, sport and music. Our partnership with the Brit Writers' Awards links the creativity that is so important in many sectors of art and music. It is through initiatives like the Brit Writers' Awards that this statement comes to life."
