Our vision

The Brit Writers' Awards aim to inspire and engage people of all ages and from all walks of life, while creating a high-profile stage for new writing.

Throughout history, the written word has always been the medium that has held the greatest power to influence, uplift and persuade. Writing gives people a louder voice; another way to express themselves. It has the ability to bring about positive social change.

That's why the Brit Writers' Awards are so exciting. We know that in the UK's schools, businesses and community organisations & projects – and indeed, across every walk of life – there are thousands of undiscovered authors, poets and songwriters, all with ideas too important to be locked in drawers or hidden in notebooks. So if you have a story, poem or song waiting to be written, now's the time to put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard and send us your entry.

We want to be able to create an important shift in the way British people of all ages and backgrounds view creative writing – not as a high-flown pastime reserved for academics, but as an exciting, expressive and mind-expanding art form that is accessible and relevant to anyone and everyone.
